The first chapter of the course Elements of AI includes definitions of artificial intelligence, discussion about closely related fields such as machine learning, deep learning, data science and robotics and presents some philosophical questions linked with AI such as the Turing test and the Chinese room argument. The chapter also introduces central terminology such as general and narrow AI and strong and weak AI and discusses what is AI and what is not. Three concrete AI applications presented in connection with defining AI are self-driving cars, content recommendation and image and video processing.
